Knoxville, TN - The 36th annual Greekfest will take place at St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 4070 Kingston Pike, and is sure to be the most special of festivals to date. Features include authentic Greek food and pastries, live music, traditional Greek dancing and costumes, and shopping.
The popular a la carte menu includes traditional favorites such as roast lamb, gyro, souvlaki, pastichio, spanakopita, Greek salad, Greek pizza and saganaki. Inside you will find delicious, homemade Greek pastries…take some home!
Sadly the beautiful mosaic tile, stained glass, and the entire interior of the church were destroyed by fire in April of this year. Festival guests will be invited into our temporary sanctuary, located in the gym. There we will once again offer presentations on Greek Orthodox religion and history. We will also present salvaged items from the fire, including several icons that were, miraculously, barely damaged.
The marketplace will offer imported jewelry, gifts, and cultural art. Also enjoy an authentic taverna, Greek wines, coffee, and frappes (iced coffee). Papou’s Pantry and YiaYia’s Cuisina will offer authentic Greek products for purchase.
And as always, the St. George youth will offer traditional and modern Greek dance performances.
Admission is $2.00 for adults and children 12-under are free. $3.00 weekend passes are also available.
